Demand generation

Most of your market is not searching for you yet.

Reaching the people who will need you in six months, so that when they finally search, they search for your name.

Run Digital runs demand generation for Utah businesses, on ad accounts, pixels and audiences registered to your business. We put you in front of people before they are ready to buy, keep the capture side running underneath it, and measure the work against branded search and enquiry volume rather than last click.

Why Run

Three things we will put in writing.

Every agency says they are different. These are the three we will be held to, on every engagement, from the first month.

01

The accountability factor

A standing meeting cadence, real project management, and deliverables with dates on them. You always know what shipped, what is in flight and what slipped.

You decide if we earn our seat at your table every month. There is no contract asking you not to.

02

A customized solution

Not an awareness campaign because awareness sounds important. Who has to know you exist, and what would make them care, decides where the money goes.

Ask for something specific and the answer is usually yes, built for you rather than pulled off a shelf.

03

Actual technicality

Not a sales rep, then a success manager, then an account manager relaying your question to someone who can answer it.

You talk to the people making the creative.

Why this works differently

Search harvests demand. It does not create any.

Almost everything you run today waits for somebody to decide they need you. Search, Maps, review sites, comparison pages, all of it collects people who are already looking. That market is finite, it is the most expensive part of the market to reach, and every competitor is standing in the same queue for it. Demand generation is the only work that makes next year’s search volume bigger, because it goes to the people who do not yet know the category exists.

Demand generation that pays off

  • Ad accounts and pixels in your name
  • An audience defined before anything is bought
  • Creative made to be worth watching
  • Capture running underneath the awareness
  • Retargeting that meets people a second time
  • Measured on branded search and enquiries

Awareness that quietly disappears

  • Spend running through the agency's account
  • An audience built on a pixel they own
  • One video pushed at everybody in the state
  • Nothing in place to catch the demand created
  • Nobody ever met a second time
  • Reporting that leads with impressions because enquiries are unknown
Your numbers, not ours

The arithmetic of being known first.

Most businesses have never worked out what a familiar name is worth at the moment somebody searches, which makes it impossible to know what is worth spending. Put your own figures in.

What is being known already worth?

Take these straight out of your own ad accounts and your own books. No benchmarks, no assumed lift, nothing here that we are claiming. It is the arithmetic of one month.

Your numbers.

0pay attention
0come looking later
0become customers this month
0from one month of reach
0a year, if nothing else changes

This is arithmetic, not a forecast. What it is genuinely useful for is working out which number to attack. In most businesses the share who pay attention is decided by the creative rather than by the budget, and that is not where the effort usually goes.

The part nobody puts in the pitch

The audience is the asset. Never let somebody else hold it.

Hiring an agency to run awareness is normal. That is not the problem. The problem is whose ad account the spend runs through, whose pixel built the audience, and whose library holds the creative. Three years of audience data is worth more than the campaigns that built it, and if it lives in the agency’s account you start from zero the day you leave.

In your name, from day one

  • The ad accounts, in your business name
  • Every audience, still yours tomorrow
  • A pixel installed on a site you own
  • Years of audience data you paid to build
  • Creative files, edits and source footage
  • The performance history of every campaign

What you find out you were renting

  • A seat inside the agency's business manager
  • Audiences you can only use through them
  • A pixel firing into an account they own
  • Audience data that stays with them
  • Creative files you never actually receive
  • History that ends at the handover
In-house capability, agency price

Do you want to manage five marketers?

Demand generation done properly is somebody who knows exactly who you are talking to, somebody making video and creative worth stopping for, somebody buying attention efficiently, somebody holding the capture side so the demand lands somewhere, and somebody measuring it against branded search rather than last click. That is five jobs, and it is the first thing cut the moment a quarter looks tight.

Building it in-house

Five hires
  • Recruiting, onboarding and managing every one of them
  • Salaries, benefits, payroll tax and platform seats
  • Your time spent approving video edits
  • Nobody who can make creative worth watching
  • Awareness that stops the first tight quarter

Run as your team

One monthly fee
  • Strategy, creative, production and media buying covered from day one
  • A flat package price, not a percentage of anything
  • Thirty years of combined marketing experience
  • No contract, no notice period, no hiring risk
  • Everything built stays in accounts you own

The Utah picture

A state that keeps sending you new neighbours.

Utah’s growth is the reason demand generation pays here in a way it does not in a flat market. Tens of thousands of people arrive every year with no supplier, no habit and nobody to ask. Being the name they have already seen twice is worth more than being the cheapest result on a page they have not searched yet.

17.9%

population growth over the past decade against 6.2% nationally, second fastest of any state. A continuous supply of people with no incumbent supplier.

USAFacts, US Census data
99.4%

of Utah businesses are small businesses, 371,569 of them. Most are invisible until somebody already knows to search for them by name.

SBA Office of Advocacy, 2025
45.4%

of Utah employees work at one of those small businesses, about 690,069 people. Being the name people recognise is the cheapest advantage any of them can build.

SBA Office of Advocacy, 2025
371,569

competitors, and the ones people already know by name pay the least for the same click.

SBA Office of Advocacy, 2025

That is the argument for this in one line. Every other way of reaching somebody in Utah is an auction against 371,568 other businesses. Being recognised is the only way to walk into that auction already winning.

What the work actually is

Eight disciplines of demand generation.

This is the list you would be hiring five people to cover.

Audience definition

Who you are actually trying to reach, written down, before a dollar goes into putting anything in front of them.

Creative that earns attention

Video and static made to be interesting to somebody who was not looking for you, because nothing else gets watched.

Paid social reach

Facebook, Instagram and the places where nobody is searching, bought for attention rather than for a click.

Video and YouTube distribution

The explainer and the short form that do the teaching, put in front of the people who will need it later.

Organic social and content

The posts, shorts and articles that keep the name in front of people between the paid pushes.

Retargeting and nurture

The people who paid attention once, met again later with something worth a second look.

Capture underneath all of it

Search, Maps, the site and a CRM ready to catch the demand, because awareness with nothing behind it is a donation.

Branded search and lift reporting

Branded search volume, direct traffic and enquiry volume over time. Last click attribution is a diagnostic here, not a result.

See it in motion

The work that makes everything else cheaper next year.

Demand generation is the easiest thing in marketing to cut and the hardest to replace, which is most of why so few businesses run it. The ones that do tend to pay less than their competitors for the same keyword, because a share of their market is searching for them by name.

How the work runs

The first ninety days.

Demand generation goes wrong at the capture side far more often than at the creative. This is the order we work in, and it is the same for every client.

01

Capture first

Search, Maps, the site and the CRM checked and ready before a dollar goes into awareness. Creating demand you cannot catch is the most expensive mistake in this channel, so fixing that is step one.

Your accounts, your audiences
02

Decide who has to know

The audience written down, with the one thing they have to understand before they could ever buy. Usually the least glamorous and most valuable week.

You keep the document
03

Make something worth watching

Explainer and short form video built once and cut many times, so there is always something in front of people rather than silence.

04

Buy attention, then buy it again

Reach bought where people are not searching, then retargeting, so the ones who paid attention meet you a second time.

05

Report against branded search

Branded search volume, direct traffic and enquiry volume over time. Impressions and reach are how we diagnose, not what we report as the result.

What we run today

Thirty-five clients. Four years. One roof.

35Active clients whose marketing we run right now
4 yearsRunning this model under one roof, with the same team
30 yearsCombined marketing experience, agency side and in-house
0Clients whose ad accounts we own instead of them

Those are counts, not projections. We have deliberately not printed an industry benchmark or a return figure on this page, because published averages across every industry tell you almost nothing about your market. The calculator above uses your numbers instead. If you want to see what this has done to branded search for specific clients, ask on the call and we will pull real reporting rather than a designed graphic.

Demand generation across Utah

Salt Lake, Utah County, and the rest of the Wasatch Front.

We run demand generation for businesses in Salt Lake City, Provo, Orem, Lehi, Ogden, West Jordan, St. George and across the state. A clinic in a category nobody searches until it hurts, a contractor whose best work people do not know is possible, a new service that has to be explained before anybody can buy it.

It does not work alone

Demand you create has to land somewhere.

Demand generation makes people interested and closes none of them on its own. These are the channels that catch what it creates.

Marketing automation

Does the follow up that gets skipped when the week gets busy.

CRM

Keeps every enquiry in one place so none of them quietly go cold.

Acquisition and LTV

Works out what a customer is worth before you decide what one is worth buying.

Local Services Ads

Google charges you per lead and decides what counts as one. We run the profile, the disputes and the pacing.

Before you ask

Demand generation questions we get every week.

Lead generation collects people who are already looking. Demand generation creates the looking. In practice that means lead gen lives in search, Maps and review sites, and demand gen lives in paid social, video and content, where nobody arrived with an intention. You need both, and the mistake almost everybody makes is running only the first one and wondering why it gets more expensive every year.

Not with last click, because last click gives all the credit to whichever channel caught the person at the end. We watch branded search volume, direct traffic, enquiry volume, and what share of new customers say they had heard of you already. Those move together or they do not move, and that is a far harder number to flatter than a cost per click.

Longer than paid search and shorter than SEO. Expect the creative to tell you quickly whether anybody cares, inside the first month, and expect branded search to take a quarter or two to move in a way you would be willing to defend. Anybody promising faster is selling you lead generation with a different label.

You do. The ad accounts sit in your business manager, the pixel is installed on your site, the audiences are built in your account, and you get the finished files and the source footage. The audience data is the part most businesses do not realise they are renting, and it is usually worth more than the campaigns that built it.

Enough to be seen more than once by the people who matter, which depends on how many of them there are rather than on a round number. A business selling across one county needs far less than one selling statewide. We would rather run a smaller audience properly than a large one too thinly to be remembered, and we will tell you if the budget is too small to be worth starting.

It helps more than anything else we could do, and it is the thing clients resist most. A person explaining something clearly outperforms polished brand video almost every time, because it looks like information rather than advertising. If you genuinely will not do it, we work with animation, customer footage and the work itself, and we say honestly that it is a harder road.

It is brand awareness that has to show up in a number. Traditional brand work is often spent without any expectation of being measured, which is why it gets cut first. We tie it to branded search, direct traffic and enquiry volume, and we keep the capture side running so the demand has somewhere to go. That is the difference.

It is published. Demand generation sits inside our paid media packages, and the pricing page shows exactly what is included at each level, plus the media budget which goes to the platforms rather than to us. No percentage of spend, and no contract.

Start with the free demand audit.

We will look at how much of your current enquiry volume is people who already knew your name, what your branded search has done over the past year, and whether anything is in place to catch demand you create, then write down what is worth doing first. You keep the audit either way. Prices are published, so you can see what this costs before you speak to anyone.
